A relief well is a well that generally works via hydrostatic pressure build up, by providing a conduit for water under pressure to be relieved thru an installed well casing. Viking Drillers, Inc. has installed Relief Wells in some problem areas along the Sacramento River and Bear River for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
A dry well is a well that allows surface water, that can pool in low areas lined with non-porous surface soil (like a field), to cleanly drain to subsurface aquifers. We have drilled Dry Wells in metropolitan systems, as well as agricultural areas, where hard pan soils restrict proper drainage.
